Dive into a world of colours

90×90 cm

Calle, 2023

This piece embodies a synthesis of expressive abstraction and meditative form, drawing from both Western and Eastern visual traditions. Dominated by sweeping, gestural marks and a tactile surface quality, the work commands attention through its bold scale and emotive energy. The composition unfolds through layered color fields and organic contours, referencing Georgia O’Keeffe’s magnified intimacy of form, while the chromatic intensity pays homage to Van Gogh’s emotional palette.

Underlying the expressive gesture is a quiet discipline influenced by Sara’s study of sumi-e under master Tohun Kobayashi in Tokyo. This is evident in the fluidity of the brushwork, the reverence for negative space, and the balance between spontaneity and restraint. The work resists rigid narrative, instead inviting open interpretation through ambiguity, texture, and contrast.

There is also a subtle conceptual undercurrent rooted in Dadaist ideology—an intentional disruption of visual order and an embrace of intuition over logic. The painting becomes a site of tension between chaos and calm, tradition and rebellion, interiority and form.

This piece reflects Sara’s evolving practice: a deeply personal yet outward-reaching exploration of material, memory, and visual language.
